I totally agree with Jerome Graber's comments about continuity. Another thing is characters who show up out of the blue and you never hear about them again. Lucy Matthews, Ed Sawyer (one of my favorites!) Quiet Sam, Frances (Franky the farmgirl), Mary (andy's girlfriend), O'Malley (convicts-at-large), the congressman (John) that came back from DC to retire in Mayberry, etc.
