me.First off,I ASSUMED nothing.I merely made a statement.As far as
"stuffing your face",how can someone call this "tacky"? It is just a
Southern term,get over it. You absoutely have a right to rebut anything
I submit. Some of you just need to get a life and quit trying to pick
something to pieces. Is that a tacky term? >>

People of Mayberry.....PLEASE!! Put down your torches and pitchforks!
Dewey is nice guy and he didn't mean to get everybody riled up.
Many of us have learned (myself as chief learner) over the years that
when writing words, rather than saying them, folks can read meaning into
them that we NEVER meant for those words to impart.
Dewey's original comments about charity were meant as a "reminder" and
not any type of "condemnation" or questioning of our fellow Mayberry
townspeople's hearts. I know this because I have met Dewey and have
some understanding of where his hear is. I knew what he meant but I
understand that it could easily be read differently.
I have said things in writing that *I* knew exactly what I meant only to
have others read what I wrote, with a pure intention, in a way I never
expected. Some of you may have been there in the past as well and I
believe this is exactly what happened in this case. I also believe that
from that mis-reading of his hearts intention, Dewey responded in
defense of his words a bit more strongly than he might otherwise have
done. The "get over it" comment, as I told him in private, was harsh.
It was a bit like throwing gas on a open flame and thus my stepping into
the conversation to try and "nip-it in the bud" before the flames grow tall.
I ask now that we let this pass and forgive each other our
transgressions. I know that *I* have accidentally thrown gas on the
open flame before and I'm thankful that I was forgiven. Let's be the
type of community that demonstrates the spirit of Mayberry and let this
discussion go no further...patting out the embers before the fire flares
high.
Personally, I did "stuff my face" the entire time between Thanksgiving
until...well....I ain't done yet. I didn't know the phrase was tacky
but it certainly is descriptive of my eating habits of late. :) Aunt
Bee, I certainly mean no disrespect by the term and I'm pretty sure
Dewey didn't either.
Let's all learn to be careful in what we write but let us also be just
as careful about how we read what is written. Let's choose to read
words in the best possible light and give each other the benefit of a
doubt when the way it's written isn't clear.
