Every time I see the episode where Aunt Bee is taking flying lessons I rekindle an old interest in the plane she takes the lessons in. I am sure it has been discussed many times, but for those who don't know....the plane is a 1956 Cessna 182A four seater. The tail numbers are N5955B and if you do a google search of those numbers you will find that the plane is still certified for flight and is owned by William Michael Hayes and is located in Santa Ana, California today. In the show the airport that was used is thought to be Whiteman Airpark in Pacioma, California. It is near the Desilu Studios. If you watch the show carefully you will see three tall smoke stacks near the airport in one of the scenes and those same three stacks can still be seen near the Whiteman Airpark.
