I just skimmed through several digests, so I apologize if someone already
mentioned this, but there are two towns near each other in Iowa--Newton, IA and
Monroe, IA. If you are travelling east or west on I-80 between Des Moines and
Iowa City, the sign for Exit 164 says "Newton Monroe" (Newton above and Monroe
on the line below). Thank goodness the sign people didn't decide to make the
sign "Monroe Newton". I took a picture of the sign a few years back. If you
would like a copy of the picture (assuming I can find it), just shoot me an
e-mail.
P.S. another place name comment--Ken mentioned Beatrice, Nebraska. While it is
spelled the same, it is not pronounced in the usual way. The pronounciation is
"Be-AT-ris"--don't ask me why.
