One of the pictures I use in my PowerPoint Mayberry presentation is of the old barbershop from my hometown. The picture was taken in the early 1940's when the population was just a little over 400. And it was a three chair shop and it shows three barbers cutting hair. That sure seemed like a lot of barbers for those days. By the time I came along after a lot of begattin' there was just one chair.

Eau Claire is having a referendum next week about where to build a new jail and whether or not to keep the current jail in the courthouse as it now is. The radio had a debate between the sheriff and a county supervisor. The county supervisor is opposed to the current downtown location and one of his arguments was that Eau Claire is not Andy and Mayberry and it wouldn't work. I almost called in to suggest they could save money by issuing keys to certain prisoners so they could arrest themselves and lock themselves up and also by giving prisoners vacations during holidays.
