Woman Who Portrayed 'Thelma Lou' Robbed in Mount Airy

Betty Lou Lynn, 83, who portrayed Thelma Lou on "The Andy Griffith Show"
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. - The woman who portrayed Deputy Barney Fife's girlfriend
Thelma Lou on "The Andy Griffith Show" was robbed in 'Mayberry' earlier this
week, according to The Mount Airy News.
According to the paper, Betty Lou Lynn, 83, was robbed Sunday while at a
shopping center near downtown Mount Airy. Lynn told police a man grabbed her
wallet around 4 p.m. and fled. The wallet had $130 inside, according to the
Mount Airy Police Department.
Police were notified and after a short foot chase, the robbery suspect, Shirley
Walter Guynn, 45, of Cana, Va., was caught. Guynn was charged with common-law
robbery and is being held in the Surry County Jail under $10,000 bond.
Lynn was not injured during the robbery.
Lynn told the paper back in 2008 that she moved to Mount Airy after becoming
"fed up" with crime in Los Angeles. She said she had been victimized several
times
Guynn is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on the robbery charge on
May 12.
The Andy Griffith Show was an American sitcom first televised by CBS in 1968.
Andy Griffith portrays a widowed sheriff in a fictional small community of
Mayberry, North Carolina, based on the town of Mount Airy.
