While watching "Stranger in Town" this morning, I got to thinking about people
who lived in Mayberry who only appeared one time on Andy. In this show, there
was Lucy Matthews and her brother Bill. They had big parts in this show, but
were never seen again. Then there were the Merry Makers of Moonshine, The
Morrison Sisters. You would have thought that if these people lived in town we
would have seen them again occasionally in the next 8 years. Can anyone think
of any other Mayberry residents that only appeared one time? (They must have
had speaking parts and must have been named to count).
When Ken wrote in today about his wrinkled birthday suit, it reminded me of a
joke that was going around back in the 70's. Back then streaking (running
around nekked to all of us country people) was the big thing. Someone said
that Maudie down at the old folks home decided she would streak the residents
of the old folks home. When she went running through Jed and Buster were
sitting there. Jed turned to Buster and said "did you see what Maudie was
wearing?" Buster said "I didn't get a real good look at it, but whatever it
was, it sure needed to be ironed."
Orville Hendricks - Selling Butter and Eggs - Martha and Me heard that joke
from Ray Stevens up at Branson.
