This past week I had the honor of speaking to a group of senior citizens at
a former church where I had been a member for 20 years. Recently one of
their members who was known for her outstanding homemade pickles died, so I
dedicated my presentation to her and used "The Pickle Story" episode as my
theme. I gave two door prizes. One was a copy of my book and the other was
a quart of store bought pickles which I put into an old Kerr canning jar and
passed off as home made. I told them I had found Aunt Bee's recipe and
warned the winner not to drive for at least six hours after eating any of
the pickles. We had a great time. I have three presentations coming up in
early June. One at an assembly for a large group of grade school kids,
another at a nursing home, and the third at a senior citizen retirement
apartment complex.
Regarding a host for SNL, I think they should have Mr. Schwump. I don't
think he would say anything that would besmirch the wonderful world of
Mayberry.
