It was mentioned in the digest today about the similarities of the Andy
Griffith TV show and The Great Gildersleeve Radio show. I too along with being
an Andy Griffith Show fan am also a big fan of The Great Gildersleeve
Radio show and have noticed many similar circumstances in the two shows and
many very similar episodes as well. Both are set in small rural towns, both
have a central character involved in government, both central characters are
raising children with no wife to help, both central characters have house
keepers (well actually Andy has Aunt Bee), both central characters have an
adversary character to taunt and balance them, both central characters
spend a lot of time in the barber shop discussing things with their friends,
both central characters are good friends with the local druggist, there is a
lot of music in both shows, central characters in both shows have a number
of lady friends over the years, and in both cases the shows revolve around
the funny episodes generated by every day life in a small town along with
serious heartwarming lessons to learn.

If you are a fan of Andy you would surely be a fan of Gildy! I really
enjoy old radio since it really puts your imagination to work visualizing the
characters and just what is going on in their world.

Many of the episodes are available on line just do a search for Great
Gildersleeve and you will find them.
