Hey, Mayberry friends, and Ken. I grew up in rural NC in the 50's and 60's and one way to earn a few pennies was to search the roadsides for empty drink bottles. At 3 cents each, they were very valuable. But when I took them to the local store, I always came away with candy or ice cream instead of cash. I didn,t think to diversify.
