You can only imagine how I felt when I read that little Petey was not real
and was just a figment of Joe's imagination. I feel just like the Darling
Boy did when his brother told him there was no Santy Claus and how Barney
felt when Andy told him that Count Iz Van Talecki did not exist. It was
hard enough for me to think about that half of a boy Horatio and now I have
to think of Petey who is no boy at all. I know, I should just forget about
it, but it is hard to forget about something like that.
But Joe, I hold no animosity towards you. You gave me a few days of true
delight as I reread that wonderful letter from Petey. And when you get to
be my age we cherish all those true delights for as long as we can. So I
thank you for that my friend, and if you ever get the urge to write me a
letter, I would certainly appreciate hearing from you or any other creetcher
whom you might make up.
