A gentleman in our church has a vacation home in Manteo, NC. About 15 years ago
I asked him if he had ever seen Andy Griffith around town. He said, "Mr.
Griffith (this gentleman was about 70 at the time) is a very private man". He
went on to tell me that one day he was in the hardware store when Mr. Griffith
walked in. My friend asked the store owner if that was really Andy Griffith?
The owner said yes, but if you talk to him just talk the way you would to
anyone else and don't bring up anything about show business, he's real
friendly. My friend stood there and Mr. Griffith came up to he and the store
owner and started talking about the weather. They ended up having a nice
conversation about the weather and the hardware items they were both buying.
No mention was ever made about show business or fame. It was just 3 guys
talking. He said that was the only time the had ever seen Mr. Griffith in
Manteo. I'm sure for some people it would be
terrible to be constantly bothered by well wishers not matter how nice they
were.
When I was a kid in the mid 60's, the Bonnie and Clyde car was brought to
Crossroad's Mall in Roanoke and put on display for a couple of days. The mall
was within walking distance from my house so my friends and I all went to see
it. It did have a lot of holes in it. Then years later I remember reading
that there had been several cars called the Bonnie and Clyde car that had
toured the country. They were all replicas of the original. It was basically
a clear case of Falsifying.
