I too would love to be able to see episodes of The Don Knotts Show, but it is extremely unlikely that it will ever make it to DVD. Variety shows of that type always had guest stars who performed their hit songs (or at least, songs that they hoped would become hits), and all of these songs would have been covered by separate copyrights. When the show originally aired, the producers most likely had permission to air the songs only once, or perhaps twice, to allow for one rerun. To try to get permission from ALL of the various copyright holders 40 years later is next to impossible.
Certain shows of that type ARE available on DVD, such as The Smother Brothers Comedy Hour and (I think) Carol Burnett and Friends, but they include only a handful of assorted episodes (not a complete season, as with other TV shows on DVD), and they are always heavily edited. --Paul Mulik >>>'The Don Knotts Show' (1970-1971) needs to be released on DVD. This variety >>>series was >>> produced at the height of the color "variety series" genre in 1970 and 1971. Both Andy and Don appeared on many of these type?series at the time. ?
