Hi devotees of all things Mayberry, Mayberry Days was,as usual, a blast.Nine members of our Shakedown!Shakedown! Chapter attended the festivities. My entering the trivia contest is tantamount to making a two dollar entry fee contribution. The contest this year was filled with insuffrable questions. You know they had to be tough when Dennis and Pat missed a few.WHEW! The celebrity actors/actresses and tribute artists were,as always,on top of their game.Never too busy for an autograph or posing for a picture.Class acts to say the least. I got to put a face to some of the digest names.I met Harriet the Chicken Thief,Gentleman Dan Caldwell, Welford the Camera Nut.If I failed to mention someone's name that I met,I beg your forgiveness.Old memory is no longer a young memory.I talked with several people that were chapter members scattered accross the good old U.S.A.I met Lee Cooper who is a chapter member in Wilson,NC,probably a two hour drive from where I live.Nice guy. Jeff Koontz, the silent auction workaholic, put together a monster size auction this year of which I was priviliged to be a part of.Kudos to Jeff. Me,my wife, and another chapter member helped with the pie eating contest. That was quite an experience. Some came away with a whip cream beard.Everyone had a great time. All shopkeepers, vendors were very hospitable. The Surry Arts Council and the town Chamber of Commerce did a great job of making new visitors feel right at home. I enjoy the parade as much as any facet of Mayberry Days. Thanks to The Barney Chapter from Greensboro,NC. They are always a big part of the parade being a success each year.Creative and talented group.Thanks. Congratulations to Tammy Sullivan(Opie's mom) for winning an award. The award is annually given to an individual who epitomizes true Mayberry qualities. She always works tirelessly helping to ensure Mayberry Days is a fun experience for everyone.Kudos to the Mt.Airy Police Department.Old "Barn would have been proud.I did not witness a single disturbance or see a citation handed out. I'm sad it's over, but looking forward to next year. Dewey in NC _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
