When watching DVDs, whenever there's a scene of someone reading the newspaper, I like to hit the pause button and try to read the headlines. Today while watching "Opie's Fortune," when Barney discovers the ad about the lost purse, I noticed for the forst time that the Mayberry Gazette headline appears to read "Let Surry Vote Democratic, We'll Get Results, Says Pell." I wonder if this was something Andy had inserted into the prop newspaper as a subtle way of making a political statement to the folks back home. Mt. Airy is in Surry County, and Andy Griffith has often stated "I vote Democratic" in interviews.
