Growing up in quiet and safe Dorchester was a blessing to me. However, 50 years later, the small, quiet safe little town I grew up in has little resemblance in so many ways. One of our favorite Mayberry-Like pastimes was attending dances at the Memorial Hall. Saturday night would find young and old dancing to old time music and having a great time with good wholesome fun. This week's home paper had a story about a stabbing that occurred at that same Memorial Hall at a Saturday night dance last week. The article reported that the stabbing occurred despite the presence of security guards and security cameras. I had to read the story twice to make sure it was talking about the same place that I once frequented. It left me with a hollow feeling in the pit of my stomach knowing that yet another part of my past has been changed by the hostile and violent society that we now have. Just another reminder why TAGS is such a special place for me. It takes me back to those days when life was indeed so much different.
