This past Saturday I had the honor of doing a Mayberry Presentation to a
group of 50 seniors at their monthly meeting of an area chapter of the Sons
of Norway organization. What another wonderful experience as these people
of Norwegian ethnicity welcomed this second generation Swede amongst them.
I spoke for 45 minutes and I must confess my audience was so kind and
attentive and they even laughed at my Ole and Lena jokes. After the
presentation many of the folks came up to me and thanked me for bringing
back so many memories of the simpler times that they all remember so well.
Two couples came up to me and I found out I taught their children during my
very first year of teaching back in 1967. I remembered them well. Another
gentleman asked me if I knew the name of minister who he used to fish with
years ago. It turned out the minister was the one who confirmed me. My next
gig is in a few weeks when I will be speaking to a Historical Society in a
neighboring city.
