Yesterday our local TAGS stations broadcast the episode where Barney tickets
the Governor's car in front of the Post Office. There are two things I've
always wondered about that show. When Andy is trying to convince a drunken
Barney that the Governor is not coming to ball him out but to praise him, Andy
says, "Barney, I've never lied to you before and I'm not lying now". Off the
top of my head I can remember a couple of times Andy lied to Barney. He lied
about the microphone in Barney joins the choir and he lied about he and Helen
being trapped in the cave rescue. I'm sure there might be other times when
Andy told little white lies to Ol' Barn.
The second thing I noticed in that episode is when the Governor does come to
Mayberry to shake Barney's hand. The Governor is in the courthouse, praises
Barney and then says he has to get back to the capital. He was in the Mayberry
Court House......why didn't he pay the parking ticket???
Just wondering,
Harry in Salem, VA
P.S. There is a line from that episode that my circle of friends often uses.
Whenever someone is trying to convince another of something, we always say,
"Sure Mike...Sure".
