While out Christmas shopping this week I noticed all the people taking
videos with their cell phones. Got me to thinking how lucky the people of
Mayberry were that they didn't have phone cameras and You Tube. Can you
just imagine what would be floating all over the internet back then. People
would have seen Otis riding a cow down Main Street, Goober's girlfriend
hanging her head out the car window like a dog, Ernest T. breaking windows,
Charlene Darling ogling the pretty sheriff, Why someone might have even
videoed Barney giving away Aunt Bee's cucumbers. They might even have
gotten Aunt Bee and the church ladies all gassed and someone might have
caught Andy taking a snookered Deputy Fife up his porch steps. And poor
Helen and Thelma Lou would really have been upset if Skippy or Daphne would
have filmed their shenanigans in the courthouse with Barney and Opie. Oh to
be sure, the good folks of Mayberry are mighty lucky they lived in days
before all these elctronal marvels.
