I just watched the Mayberry RFD episode where Andy and Helen were married. It reminded me a lot of my wedding back in 1970. Weddings were so different. Not the elaborate debt educing events that they now are. We had a simple candlelight ceremony in my wife's home church followed by a quiet intimate reception in the church basement. Like the new Taylors, we too only had fruit punch to drink. My wife's mother made Linda's wedding gown and all the bridesmaid's dresses. Our entire wedding cost around $500 and our honeymoon was a five day camping trip to Canada. My mother-in-law had a dinner at the farm the night of the rehearsal for all my family who were coming to the wedding. Our photo album contains ten small black and white photos that were taken by a photographer. The best part of the entire wedding is that my wife and I are still happily married after almost 42 years. This all goes to prove one thing. If you want a happy marriage, you don't have to go to Mount Pilot. You also do not have to spend a lot of money either. I should say too, that next year is our 42nd anniversary and I plan to take my wife to Ireland. Then I plan to go back to get her on our 50th.
