Some of the things I miss most about growing up in a small town in the '50's
and 60's.
The sound of the ding when you drove across the wire when getting gas.
The sound of glass pop bottles falling in the machine and then the sound of
the cap coming off.
Getting my hair cut by a barber rather than by a hair stylist.
The sound of the siren going off in town at noon, six o'clock, and nine
o'clock.
Getting a coke or malted at the little drug store.
Having the milkman deliver milk right to your back door.
Watching movies outdoors on the feed mill walls on Friday nights.
Walking home from a sock hop holding hands with my favorite girl.
Ice skating on the old mill pond on cold winter nights.
Listening to letters to Santa Claus being read on the radio.
Digging through junk at the down dump looking for pop bottles.
Watching the trains stopping at the depot and seeing tramps jump out of the
boxcars.
Skinny dipping and looking for blood suckers in the creek out in the woods.
Walking to and from school every day of every year.
Having the same kids in class for all my school days.
Knowing everyone who I met on the street.
