I am enjoying all the old memories so much. Sure takes me back.
How about...
making chains out of dandelion stems
drinking chocolate milk at school out of ice cold glass bottles
selling kool aid on the street corners for 2 cents a glass
putting a playing card in your bike spokes to make a motor sound
playing cowboys and Indians without worrying about being PC
walking the railroad tracks to the next town
catching pollywogs and keeping them in a tank until they became frogs
going to freak shows at carnivals even though you knew the freaks were
really fakes
mowing lawn with a push mower with no motor
the smell of everyone burning leaves on a crisp fall afternoon
drinking root beer in your car at a root beer stand that every town had
eating paste out of the paste jar in art class
sneaking into the classroom at noon hour and eating goiter pills
deciding how to spend a nickel with all the penny candies
letting the girls in dresses go up the slide ladder ahead of you (naughty
Kenny)
trying to keep those clamp on roller skates on your shoes
pretending you were grown up by buying candy cigarettes
trading marbles on a warm spring day
lying on the ground looking at the clouds wondering where God was
I could go on and on as I am sure so many of you can? Amazing how many
simple things brought so much fun and joy to a child back then.
Not one mention of anything electronic or of anything that needed a battery.
