Recently I have posted quite a few memories of places, things, people.Remember
some of the important
things our parents passed on to us?I guess they considered them pearls of
wisdom,common sense,or
grown up advice.I can vividly recall hearing my parents utter the following
tidbits.I did not understand
all of them at that point in my life, but I have now become my parents.I have
passed along a whole bunch
of this growing up stuff to my daughters. On occassion,I have heard them tell
their children the exact
same things.Things are constantly changing but remaining the same.

*He can run like a scalded dog
*Your room looks like a pig's sty
*He fell 'outta the ugly tree and hit every limb on the way down
*You made your bed,now sleep in it
*The weather is as cold as a banker's heart(although there is a politically
incorrect version of this also,
  yeah,ugh huh,you remember it too)
*That child has a face only a mother could love
*Go ahead and enjoy it,you can't take it with you
*When he sings, sounds like a dying cow in a hail storm(one of my father's
favorites)
*That young'un is a mess
*He's as crooked as a snake
*I'm dog tired....(what can a dog be tired of?)
*He's tighter than Dick's hatband
*That rascal is thougher than whitleather(never did figure out what animal
whitleather came from)
*That's just a drop in the bucket
*As long as you live under my roof, you'll do as I say(must have heard that one
at least a dozen times)
*Fine as snuff, and not half as dusty
*Fine as a frog hair split nine times
*You'll see me do it when pigs fly
*Uglier than the backside of a burnt stump(Mercy, that is a mess of ugly)
*He's crazy as a Junebug
*Cute as a Junebug
*I've got a memory like an elephant(just what exactly does an elephant have to
remember?)
*I slept like a baby last night(doesn't a baby usually wake up about two or
three times a night)...never understood that one
*It's hot as blue blazes
*I'm as happy as if I had good sense
*He ain't as big as a bar of soap with two weeks washing gone off it(probably
my favorite)
*Say it again and I'll wash your mouth out with lye soap
*Blood's thicker than water
*You can't get blood from a turnip
*He ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer is he
*It's fixin to come up a storm
*Ain't got too much gray matter, does he
*Lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas
*He's as hard headed as a brick
*Dead as a door nail
*So slow,he couldn't catch a cold
