Hey, Mayberry friends. Today, my wife and I went on a field trip with my fifth grade granddaughter to Old Salem in Winston-Salem, NC. The tour of the old shops and homes was over around 2:30, (we visited a Tavern where George Washington spent two nights, ain't that something!) so we decided to spend the rest of the afternoon in Mt. Airy, just 40 miles away. We visited the Andy Griffith Museum and shared greetings with Mr. Emmett Forrest and loaded up on classic candy from Opie's Candy Shop. After doing a little shopping we ate supper at the BlueBird Diner before starting home.
Now that's what I call a good Friday for a Mayberry 'Nut' like me! Let me tell ya', George Washington was a great man, but he don't hold no candle to an afternoon in Mayberry!
