We know Andy didn't have air but it seemed that the Sheriff's Office probably
had it as did Weaver's but it was a time when we were transitioning to AC. I
lived in Texas in 1960 and even the corner market didn't have air. We had an
air cooler and it was not ice cold. In 1958 I remember going to Miller's in
Knoxville and they had window open and huge fans going. So going and getting
pop on Sundays would actually be a relief. We are spoiled now days but I would
rather have the air. At my house in Utah, I do not have AC but it gets in the
80s between June and August. By the end of August we need heat at night. As
far ad them sweating they did using Barney's car episode, the roof episode ,
and the bandstand. I agree that some of Mayberry,s charm was the porch and the
city street.
