Good topic on House vs Home. Can you imagine the song "Oh give me a home,
where the buffalo roam" being changed to "Oh give me a house where there
ain't one single louse" and it just doesn't have the same meaning. It isn't
the house that makes a home but the people that dwell within the walls of
the house. The jail in Mayberry was called "The Big House" in one episode
too because it wasn't a dwelling where folks lived. Also when I was a kid
and stayed on my grandpa's farm and nature called we had to use the Out
House and not the Out Home. When folks buy a new house they have a
"Housewarming" party but when folks leave and return they have a "Homecoming
Party". In church we sing about someday we will have a new home together,
and not a new house.
OK folks, I think I have about gone on long enough about that. Point is it
is the people and the families that make Mayberry what it is; it isn't the
houses and buildings. We enjoy going to the Taylor Home Inn to stay and not
the Taylor House Inn. It is the love and warmth that exudes from Marsha
that makes our stay there always so wonderful; all thought I must admit the
house is pretty darn inviting too.
