Thanks, Dewey, for starting this discussion thread. I've probably brought up
this episode 124 times over the past 10 years, but my "warm and fuzzy" moments
(plural) come during the CHRISTMAS STORY (# 11), my all-time favorite (shared
with a couple of other episodes). There are facial expressions, dialogue,
enthusiasm, humor, and acts of kindness throughout this episode that warm my
heart and bring tears to my eye (I guess an old man can confess to the latter).
By the end of the show, after "Away in a Manger" is sung, the "prisoners" are
encircled by love, and Scrooge Weaver has reformed and has been accepted with
open arms and unconditional love, I'm just a puddle of sentiment and emotion.
The final warm and fuzzy moment comes when we hear Aunt Bee's inviting voice,
"Ben," as she hands him a heaping plate of food. It makes me want to declare
a time warp, jump through the screen, and right into the Mayberry Courthouse to
join the family whose festivities are already in progress. For me, this
episode is the epitome of everything that Mayberry represents.
Thanks.
