>Catching up on newspaper reading of USA Today, I saw a Mayberry reference. It >was about Tuscarora indians in NY; remember that was Mr. Dave's magic word to >get gumballs out of >the gumball machine without a coin? Do you suppose he was from up there?
>Aunt Bee of Orlando I don't have Neal Brower's Mayberry 101 book in front of me, but if I recall correctly Harvey Bullock moved from Oxford, NC to Binghamton, NY and "Tuscarora" was what his Father said when they crested a big hill in the area so the connection to NY and the tribe would have gone back his growing up in that area. Last weekend I saw an old Charles Bronson movie called "10 to Midnight" and recognized Meyer's Lake in one sequence. The lake level was up and the killer (naked) was chasing the girl (also naked) through the woods and she gets stabbed right where Opie throws the rock in the lake. It was a typical plot formula for Bronson movie, but "sometimes I like to see a bat." I can't recommend the movie, but thought it was neat to recognize the area from TAGS. I was just glad Andy and Opie were not going fishing at the time! Look away, boys.
