We had 126 little Trick or Treaters last night. We would have had a
lot less but my wife made me take down the disease signs I put up. I
dressed up in a scary costume and sat perfectly still outside on the lawn.
Everyone tried to figure out if it was a real person. When someone would
come up real close to look or to touch me I would jump at them and yell out
"Don't touch me". Scared the beejeebers out of 'em. Of course I didn't do
that to the little ones. I just waved to them. I thought I was entitled
to do that to the older kids after spending 36 years teaching the little
monsters. Most of them had parents with them and the parents thought it
was just great. Even got my picture taken some more. Between dressing up
like Barney Fife all summer and now dressing up at Halloween, all the
people in my neighborhood really think I am crazy. That's half the fun of
never having grown up. I can still enjoy so many things. I have so many
great memories of my childhood Halloweens in our little town and half the
fun was getting scared somehow. I also had a large boom box hidden and it
was playing really spooky Halloween music and sounds. You could hear it all
the way down the block. I bet Opie and his friends had a great time on
Halloween in Mayberry.
