Speaking of women wearing pants, someone the other day mentioned that Peggy wore pants when she went fishing with Andy and Opie. This was the first time we'd ever seen a lady wearing pants in Mayberry, and not only that, this was the last time we ever saw Peggy. I think the Ladies Auxiliary or some similar organization ran her out of town.
It's true to Frankie Flint wore overalls while working on the farm, but those aren't exactly pants, and she didn't wear them in town. When she came into the drugstore she was wearing a dress. Later, Helen Crump wore some sort of snug pants (maybe leggings?) while rehearsing for the school play. but I don't think she ever wore pants in public.
