It certainly has been quiet on the Digest for the past few days so I thought I would attempt to generate some discussion with the following question. "If you could go back to Mayberry in the 60's and go on a date with anyone from Mayberry, who would you choose and where would you go?" Well, my choice would be Millie Swanson. I have always had a weakness for cute blondes. I would of course pick her up in my 1966 Chevy convertible. I would definitely not take her anyplace expensive on a first date. I would choose something simple yet fun so we could really get to know one another. I would definitely not take her to a movie. On a first date, that is the worse place to go because you do not get a chance to interact and find out anything about each other. All you do is sit for several hours and watch the screen. So I would probably invite Millie to go on a nice picnic to Meyer's Lake. Nothing fancy, just some weenies to roast, some potato salad, baked beans, lemonade, and something for dessert. We could have a relaxing lunch where we could really talk about our likes and dislikes. We could take a nice walk along the lake and perhaps skip some stones and take a ride in a canoe if one were available. After the picnic I would take Millie to Finnegan Flats to see Indian Rock and perhaps watch some crows. If there was still time I would stop at Morelli's for pizza. Then a nice slow drive home with the top down. I would walk her to the door and tell her how much I enjoyed squiring her around for the day. Then perhaps a nice gentle kiss on the cheek and I would be on my way. Probably not the most exciting date by today's standards, but we must remember that Mayberry is a quiet, simple place in a very different time. Now this of course is all depending on whether or not Millie would even accept a date with me.
