I did a comedy presentation at a local church Wednesday. Had a great turn out.
Although I live in a small
town about the size of Mayberry I didn't opt to use any of Howard Sprague's
ideas. A person could get
sued today telling jokes about their neighbors. So I have a fictitious farm
community family that I build my
stories around. Anything I say could be acceptable for any child to hear.
People ask me why I got involved
in stand up comedy. You only have to watch a couple of programs on TV to know
the days of Mayberry have
long passed. Clean comedy is a passing fad although there are hundreds of us
trying to keep it afloat. We had a
comedy contest in a near by town recently and I was about to apply as a
contestant until I saw the fine print,
"Adult language".If any one has a church or organization that would like to
hear some good clean Mayberry
era comedy I am always looking for different venues although I don't normally
do places that serve alcohol
as a business. My main character, D. J. Flatt, might have been ugly but he
wasn't stupid...Just b/c he might have
thought Roe v Wade was two ways to cross Wildcat Creek.
