I spoke with Mr. Cady about 20 years when he moved to the Charbonneau golf
community.
He was a friendly, pleasant man to talk with who told me he turned down an
offer to portray Mayberry's chief imbiber, but was glad to later do an
episode with "Otis."
Mr. Cady didn't want a lot of publicity; he said he was retired and wanted
to enjoy life. I admired his work and was glad to have a chance to tell him
that.
He spent more than 20 years in that pretty community about a half hour
south of Portland and I hope he enjoyed his long retirement; he left show
business in 1977.
