I was listening to Mike and Mike this morning on ESPN Radio and had no idea those two were such big fans of Andy Griffith. For their first tribute they whistled the theme to the show and then later they played the version from the early 60's where Andy sang the lyrics to "The Fishin Hole". Mike Greenberg then made a comment I found very touching. He said, "Andy Griffith was an artist. It is the goal of most artists to leave a legacy that outlives them. 99.9% of artist fail to do that. Andy Griffith has left a legacy that will go on long after his passing". Amen, Mike. They went on to talk about TAGS never being off the air and Greenberg said something I could definately relate to, even though I was raised in the south and he was raised in New York City. "If you were a kid home sick from school, you watched The Andy Griffith Show" during the day." These guys know more than sports. While it is a sad time, there is much to celebrate. A truly fine and caring man who gave so much pleasure and entertainment to so many people. I was talking to a friend yesterday about Andy. He gave Andy a great compliment. "I'd put Andy Griffith up there with John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart, if they were in it, I would watch it." This may sound strange, but even though I never met Mr. Griffith, I'm proud to say I knew him.
