I have an interesting gig coming up on the 27th of July. I have been asked
if I would be willing to drive a gentleman around Eau Claire for a bit in
my squad car while in uniform. He is a huge Mayberry fan, well not really
that huge, only about 180 pounds, and he is retiring after working 35 years
at a university about 70 miles from town. His colleagues have given him a
voucher for a dinner in Eau Claire followed by a play at our Regional Arts
Theater. He doesn't know about the Mayberry part. I will be picking him
up at the Theater and driving him to the restaurant. The restaurant will
be having a "Reserved for Barney Fife" sign out in front of the parking
area. I will arrive with light flashing and siren blowing. I checked with
our police and it is illegal, but they said they probably would not notice
if I did it briefly. When he is done eating I will be taking him back to
the theater for his play. They will be making a donation to my hometown
library in exchange for my helping them out. It should be lots of fun.

Today I have a Mayberry presentation and tonight we have been invited to
bring the squad car to a neighboring town's Historical Society Celebration.
If it weren't for all this terrible heat, life here in Eau Claire would be
almost perfect.
