This has been just a wonderful summer for my wife and me. We have had the
great privilege of being part of many small town celebrations as we
participate in area parades and car shows. Our beloved folks in Mayberry
enjoy celebrating Founder's Day each year. It is part of their heritage
and it is an important part of their lives. I have found the same thing is
true with all the small towns we visit. We have taken part in a Nabor Day
Parade, Bean and Bacon Day Parade, Broiler Fest Parade, Harvest Festival
Parade, Sturgeon Festival Parade, Pure Water Days Parade, Cheese Days,
Friendship Day Parade and others. Each one represents what small town
America is all about. Like the people in Mayberry, all the people who live
in these small towns love their communities. They are simple, hard working
people who know their neighbors and care about their towns. The warmth and
friendliness that we have experienced by so many great people has been
overwhelming. By summer's end we will have been at 37 parades, car shows,
and community events as The Mayberry Guru. People ask me if we don't get
tired of having to go somewhere every weekend, but the answer is a
resounding "NO" How could we possibly get tired of seeing the laughter and
smiles when people share their love of TAGS and Mayberry? I just hope that
I am able to continue doing this for many years to come. Perhaps the
people will tire of seeing me, but I shall never tire of seeing all those
great people out there in rural America.
