In the episode about Opie's Drug Store job Andy and Howard were reminiscing
about their first jobs, Andy's being the popcorn maker at the theater and
Howard's being a truck driver. It got me to thinking about my first job
and I thought it would be interesting for our digest family to share
memories about their very first "real job". Mine was when I was 14 years
old and I was hired to be a pin setter at our local four lane bowling
alley. I was paid ten cents per line and I had to set two lanes at one
time. If I worked a double shift from 7:00- 11:30 setting both lanes I
could make $4.80 a night. I did this job all through high school. In fact
I was setting pins on a Sunday afternoon when my brother came to tell me
that our father had just died of a heart attack.
