One more thought about mail in Mayberry. I always thought it was a bit strange that Otis' sister in law would send a letter to him at the courthouse. Yes, Otis did lead them to believe that he worked at the courthouse, but wouldn't she normally send it to his home address. I taught school for 36 years and never once did I receive any mail there from a family member or friend. Of course when you have as few friends as I do the chances of getting a letter from one of them anywhere is very slight.
