As someone mentioned a few days ago, the current issue of the eBullet has a neat story from Rance Howard revealing that Andy Taylor was originally going to be called Andy Hopper. At some early point somebody decided that name wasn't quite right, so they "took a think" and came up with Andy Taylor instead. What is not mentioned in the article, though, is that Andy Griffith's grandmother was named Taylor. Surely this fact figured into the decision.
