I grew up in a small town in South Dakota (Wolsey), that I have always thought of as a "Mayberry of the North." The sign at the edge of town says "Welcome to Wolsey, Population 450 friendly people" and every once in a while, someone would paint "and one crab" at the bottom of the sign!
I now live in another Mayberry-like town, (Chaska, MN), which has a population of 22,000 (a bit larger, yes, but still very "small" in character). We have free band concerts in the city square park each Friday during the summer (no spiders under the gazebo, that I am aware of). Our city motto is "the best small town in Minnesota" and it does have that nice small town feel.
