Maybe that car Barney drove, could have been Barney's mothers car, that he borrowed from her time to time? If it was, I think if someone were to refer to Barney driving that car, it would be easier to say "Barney's car" ( since he is driving it) than "Barney's mothers car".... Right? Maybe?
