Ken made some good points about episodes of TAGS which had similar plots to
episodes of Mayberry R.F.D. There are also episodes of Gomer Pyle - USMC that
parallel episodes on TAGS.

In Barney on the Rebound, Barney is accused of "proposing" to a girl who turns
out to a con artist after his money, and of course in the end Andy saves the
day. The very same thing also happened to Gomer, and Sgt. Carter had to try to
get him out of the mess.

In Andy Saves Gomer, Gomer smothers Andy with all sorts of unwanted favors
after Andy "saved Gomer's life." This very same story was also used on Gomer
Pyle - USMC, only with Sgt. Carter receiving all of the unwanted attention.
They even used the same ending gag, with Carter pretending to be working on a
leaking gas stove.

Obviously, there had to be some sort of agreement among members of whatever
union the writers belonged to. Perhaps the writers would ask permission from
other writers before writing such episodes, or perhaps the original writers
were paid a fee even though they didn't get screen credit. Too bad Harvey
Bullock isn't with us anymore, this would have been the perfect question to ask
him. Or maybe we asked him years ago and it's in the archives somewhere.
