My favorite mystery books are the "The Cat Who...." series by Lilian Jackson
Braun. Each book title begins with the same three words, for example "The Cat
Who Robbed a Bank" or "The Cat Who Said Cheese," etc. Almost all of the books
in this series are set in the small town of Pickax, which is sort of
Mayberry-like, except that it's in the northern U.S., not the southern. There
are about 30 books in the series, and I've read all of them over and over.

I seem to remember someone on this list once mentioning another series of
mystery books that were set in the South, maybe the Carolinas, that had sort of
"Murder She Wrote" flavor, but I cannot now remember the name of the author.
Can anyone help me out here?

Paul Mulik

P. S. Unlike Karen Moore's preference, for me, scarier is not better. I much
prefer light-hearted fare without bad language or sexual content.
