That would be the episode "A Date for Gomer," when a date was arranged between Gomer and Thelma Lou's cousin, Mary Grace. After Gomer had seemingly bailed on Mary Grace and the other four were on their way to the dance, you hear the sound of a whack from the back seat and then we see Barney holding his nose because Thelma Lou had just socked him. It is certainly a side of Thelma Lou that is seldom seen.
