My son told me something interesting today. He wanted the Rosanne series so I got him the 8 seasons for his birthday. He told me that he watched the commentaries and that Rosanne was a huge Don Knott's fan. She used to have lunch with him and discuss her show. She liked him so much that she wanted to design one of the characters around him. So they decided to base her sister's character, Jackie, played by Laurie Metcalf, around Barney Fife. After he told me that, I watched a few episodes and I could see some similarities. I thought it was an interesting tidbit about our beloved Barney. Apparently everyone loved and admired him.
