As I posted to Facebook, yesterday we put in a VHS - C tape and watched some of Mayberry Days 1999. There was Phil Lee doing Ernest T Bass and he was sooo good at it!! There was the stage up at the playhouse with the plywood stage where people clogged or did the soft shoe to jam sessions!! The parade had Michael Hoover riding in an antique touring sedan, top down, not raining!! George Spence was having a blast!! And here comes a pickup with Doug Dillard!! Oh, my!! That one is Goober himself!! And here comes.. what in the world is going on! That looks like Barney!! And here comes Floyd, clipping hair as he walks by!! And look at that tiny little red headed kid! Why he looks just like Opie!! And now Jamie Sullivan is well along in college!! This was during the time when the tribute artists spent lots of time roaming the streets greeting the people and that helped make Mayberry Days really special to us! We met so many wonderful folks who became friends and we look forward to seeing them year after year. Just think...it is only 4 1/2 months until Mayberry Days 2013 and our 16th consecutive fun weekend. The greatest thing they have started is the Sunday morning worship service. That means a lot to us and we give our thanks to LeRoy and Janice McNees for starting this and doing it for us. So much fun is to be had and if anyone has thought about going, as we did for a few years before actually going, just do it!! You better try now to get a hotel/motel room as they fill up fast, but a couple new ones have been built and help with the room situation. It is the most good, clean fun you will ever have!! And if you have never stood in the rain to watch a parade, this is the place to do it but Please, Lord!! Can you give us good weather for the parade this year?
