I am not sure if this has ever been discussed before. I took a screen shot of Newton Monroe's car when he was taking things out of the trunk and it showed his license plate. I was almost certain it was a California license plate. I zoomed in on the screen shot and sure enough - good old Newton had come all the way from California to sell cheap junk in Mayberry. He sure seemed to have an awfully large selling territory. I wonder where he got his merchandize from when his trunk got low. He said he didn't have any address other than his car. Wonder why Andy and Barney did not help Newton set up a store like they did for Bert Miller. Maybe the honking car horns were driving Newton crazy and maybe he had some bursitis from opening and closing that trunk all the time.
