I am probably in the great minority, but I am one who actually liked Warren's role as deputy. While he was no Barney Fife, he did bring some interesting facets to the show, especially his relationship to Floyd. I think too that the writers realized their mistake in trying to replace Barney with another deputy. When Floyd left the show they did not try to bring in another barber. I think bringing in Emmett Clark was just great. Emmett was a great character and he played his role magnificently. I think he became even better as he continued on with Mayberry RFD. Many of the story lines on Mayberry RFD were totally centered around the character of Emmett.
