Much of the time when you see food on TV or in the movies, it's fake prop food. It has to look good for hours and hours during filming, and many real foods (ice cream, for example) would be ruined by the hot stage lights.
I remember reading somewhere, maybe in an old TV Guide, that young Ronny Howard once tried to eat some of the prop food, thinking that "Aunt Bee" had actually prepared the meal herself. The lad concluded that she was a terrible cook.
