Nearly 20 years ago I attended a Mayberry event in which Bernard Fox (Malcolm Merriweather) was a guest. Instead of just having him sign a photo for me, I had him draw a face on a wooden egg which I had spray-painted white, and he signed his name on the other side of the egg.
Anyway, most everyone will remember that when Malcolm was working for the Taylor family, he drew a face on Opie's breakfast egg. The idea came from Bernard himself, and yes he did the actual drawing seen in the episode. It was something he had remembered folks in Ye Olde Country doing. Anyhow, what I'm getting around to is, Bernard mentioned that anytime food was seen on The Show, a representative from the sponsor, General Foods, was on hand to make sure everything on the table looked just right, since in a subtle way The Show was advertising their products (Sanka, Post cereals, Jell-O, etc.) Paul Mulik Sent from my U.S. Cellular BlackBerry® smartphone _______________________________________________ WBMUTBB mailing list [email protected] http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
